A new modular building designed to offer additional support for pupils struggling to access the classroom will open at Thomas Adams School in Wem in the new year.
The state-of-the-art spaces include a warm and welcoming classroom base, equipped with technology designed to ensure all abilities are catered for. There will also be a dedicated space for regulation and engagement, and several meeting rooms.
This fantastic addition to the school’s facilities will create capacity for one-to-one or group work to promote engagement and inclusion. The building will also be used to facilitate access to other agencies, including educational psychologists, targeted early help, neurodiversity practitioners, and healthcare partners such as Social Prescribing and the Mental Health Support Team.
Rowena Turner, SEND Manager at Thomas Adams, said: “We are excited to move into our new space, which will expand our provision for students struggling to access the classroom. The education system is experiencing an increase in the complexity of barriers faced by young people. We are incredibly grateful to be in the position to offer this inclusive new space to better meet these needs.”
Headteacher, Mark Cooper, added: “This is a really positive development for the school, adding to our ability to support all students in achieving their full potential. At a time when young people are faced with increasing and complex challenges, I am pleased that we are improving our provision to support their needs.”
The school thanked The 3-18 Education Trust for its investment and commitment in the project, and The Drapers Company for its donation of £25k for furnishings and the finishing touches. Thanks were also given to The Robert Lumley Foundation for its donation of £10k for specialist SEND equipment and technologies.
The new building will open to students in 2025.
